We Moved! (And A Weekend Recap)

We Moved! (And A Weekend Recap) | KeatingBartlett.com

Happy Tuesday!! I’ve missed you all a TON! I feel like I’ve been super off on blogging this month, but it’s all been for good reason. We’ve been crazy busy around here and this month is only going to get busier. This post was meant to go up yesterday aaaand then half the house came down with colds. So it’s been hectic. But what else have we been up to?

First of all, we’ve moved! Not far. We didn’t do a huge cross country move or anything like that (although we’re going to be doing that next summer). Instead, we moved into a new house about 20 minutes away from our old one. Zack’s military contract has 14 months left and our last apartment 1. wouldn’t let us sign a lease more than 12 months long and 2. planned on increasing their rates this fall. So that meant we had to move. To make life a bit easier, we’re now in base housing.

We were very fortunate to have had this move completely covered by the military. They even packed everything up for us as well which made our life a bit easier. Well, for the most part. Moving gives me anxiety and I cant stand people touching my things. Plus I feel like they never pack things logically either. BUT on the bright side, we didn’t have to balance a 3.5 month old with packing so that was lovely!

The movers arrived around noon on Friday and had our house completely packed up and on the truck by 4 which wasn’t too bad at all. The downside was that we were driving to the new house in rush hour traffic. So that totally sucked! Plus it was a Friday so traffic was even worse. But we got to the new house safe and sound and the movers arrived a little after 5. So that gave us a little time to introduce Jack to the new house and take care of Allie a bit before we began moving and unpacking.

I honestly had zero desire to live in base housing. I’ve been done with military life for a couple years now and living off base, I felt like we had a super normal life. Zack was working normal hours, Monday-Friday with holidays and weekends off. We weren’t surrounded by military families. It was a really nice change so I wasn’t wanting to surround myself with this lifestyle again. BUT our home has so much more space.

We went from a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment with ZERO space or closest or ANYTHING storage-wise to a two-story 3 bedroom, 3 bath house with a huge backyard, open kitchen, big closets and lots of extra storage space. So for our little family of four, this works a million times better. Our backyard is fenced in so we can leave the back door open to allow Jack the opportunity to go outside and run around whenever he wants. He already loves it! We also got to know our neighbor which was super nice! We might actually have a friend here so maybe this next year wont be too bad after all.

The movers were super quick to move all our belongings into the new house. I think it only took about an hour and a half or so to get everything settled and in the correct rooms. By 7 o’clock we were ordering dinner off Door Dash (our newest obsession) and unpacking the living room. We had every intention of unpacking the entire house that night but by 8:30/9ish we were both completely exhausted. So we made the bed and called it a night!

Saturday morning we woke up feeling absolutely amazing! I don’t know what it was, but we all slept really well Friday night. I expected Allie to wake up a time or two since we were in a new place and she didn’t. She slept through from 9pm to 8am! We slept so well that by the time we woke up, it felt like 10am…it was 7:30. So clearly we were all exhausted and in desperate need of a good night’s sleep.

I spent Saturday morning curled up on the couch with Allie, watching some movies while Zack unpacked the kitchen. After a super long day on Friday, I really just wanted to spend the morning relaxing. I ended up unpacking a lot of the upstairs a little later in the day while Allie napped on the couch. We still have a lot to unpack and organizer upstairs but as of right now, all our clothes are put away as well as all of my makeup and beauty products so I’m at least able to get ready in the morning without having to search for things. I’m hoping to have Allie’s bedroom completely organized and put together today and then the rest of our bedroom put together today or tomorrow. My office is a whole other story…

Unfortunately the movers broke a piece of my desk while moving it and then somehow my bookshelf entered the new house in one piece, but was completely fallen apart by the time they got to the top of the stairs. Don’t ask me how. I don’t get it. But I’m not pleased. So since my office is just broken right now, I haven’t even started trying to put it all together. There’s nowhere to put things anyways since the bookshelf is broken so right now that room is storage. I’m hoping we get reimbursed soon so I can get that room set up and organized.

That night we relaxed with dinner, drinks and The Office and were passed out in bed by 9 o’clock or so. Again, we all slept beautifully! I don’t know what it is, but we’re all sleeping really well here. Allie had a couple awesome (and long) naps on Saturday so I wasn’t really sure how well she’d sleep that night. But thankfully she slept straight through from 9pm to 7:30am.

Sunday was a day of football! We just switched to DirecTV so we could get the NFL Sunday Ticket and it’s AWESOME so far. One of the worst parts of military life is living in states where your teams aren’t playing…because then the local stations don’t show them on tv. So it totally sucked last year not being able to watch every single game the Patriots played. Now we’ll never miss one!

I spent the morning getting some things unpacked upstairs and then came down around 10 o’clock to watch the game with Zack and Allie. Once the game was over, I had my first photoshoot in a LONG time. If you didn’t know, I used to have a photography business back home in Maine. I’ve always had a love for photography so I started my first business when I was 19 and absolutely loved it. I’ve been wanting to get back into it ever since I upgraded my Nikon last year and now, I finally did it! Keating Bartlett Photography is officially back!

So Sunday I had my first photoshoot back in business and had an absolute blast! It was a pregnancy announcement for a super sweet couple so I can’t post photos online of it quite yet until they announce it, but I couldn’t be happier with how well it went. I have four other sessions scheduled for the next few weeks and I’m super excited about them. It feels so amazing to be back.

When I returned home, I got right to editing and then by that night, Allie had come down with her very first cold. I’ll be sharing more about this in her four month update post, but Sunday night was a VERY long night and Monday and today weren’t a whole lot better. Lots of naps and cuddles for the little one. Hopefully tomorrow she’s feeling a bit better.

How was your weekend? I’d love to catch up and hear what’s going on in your lives!!

So glad you are getting settled in your new home! We have lived in post housing at 4 out of 5 of our duty stations and we prefer it. With my husband’s tendency to have unpredictable schedules it made life so much easier. 🙂 I hope you enjoy your new home!

    • I loved on base housing when we were living in North Carolina. But back then I was also liking military life haha these days, we’re not too fond of it so the separation of work and home was really nice. I’m definitely excited to go back to that when he gets out next year. But for now, we do like our home on base so far 🙂

  • Yay! Congrats on the new chapter!

  • Dang! Did I read that right that your house was packed and on the truck in FOUR HOURS?! Holy moly! Those are so impressive packers!! We never have experiences like that. Ha!

    • Yesss!! Thank God! haha I had actually left to run errands because I was tired of waiting for them to get there and by the time I came home, half the house was packed. I was only gone an hour and a half and it was just the owner that was there packing. His team hadn’t even made it to the house yet. Quite impressive! haha I hope our move back home next year goes just as quickly and smoothly.

  • Autumn

Hey girl! Finally spending some time catching up on the blog! Did you say you were moving back to Maine next year?!

    Congrats on the move!

    • Yes!! I’m moving back with Allie the first week of June and Zack will be moving back the first week of October 🙂 finally saying goodbye to the Marine Corps!

  • We’ve only lived on base once, but I was actually surprised by how much I liked it! I’ve decided to take a step back from being so involved at this duty station, so I didn’t think I mind living off base again, but I actually kind of miss it! I’m so happy to see that the entire family is adjusting so nicely!

    • I loved living on base when we lived in North Carolina but I also liked military life back then haha these days we’re not a fan. We’re really just counting down the days until he gets out next year. So the normality was such a nice change. But we do very much like having more space again. We don’t feel so cramped and on top of each other anymore lol
