November Goals

Happy November everyone! It’s so crazy to think next month is Christmas already. Where did this year even go?! Does anyone else feel like we just celebrated the holidays? So weird. This was literally one of the fastest years of my life. But anyway, now that it’s a new month, it’s time to recap my October goals and set new ones for the month of November. Overall I feel like October was a slight fail. I accomplished 6 out of 10 goals, but the 4 that I failed at were kind of big ones. Ones that I really wanted to be successes. But they weren’t so I’ll have to try again this month!

OCTOBER GOALS

  1. Blog 5 days a week – FAIL. I did really well for two weeks straight and then I had a couple bad mental health days and it all fell apart from there.
  2. Have all posts scheduled a week in advance – FAIL. Again, I did well for a couple of weeks and then everything fell apart. I had way too many posts this month that went up in the middle of the day because I just didn’t have the motivation to finish them the night or weekend before like planned. So I’m hoping to do better with this in November.
  3. Finally hit 10k monthly page views. FAIL. This one is a horrible fail. I’m pretty disappointed, but that’s my own fault for not being consistent enough this month. Consistency is super hard for me because of my mental health. Some days I just don’t want to do anything. But it’s getting better the more I get settled so I know I can make this happen in November.
  4. Update all old posts. – FAIL. Yup. I knew that was coming. I just hate updating those things! It’s so time-consuming and annoying! I did really well for the first few days and then got super bored of it. So it just didn’t happen. So maybe partial credit here for at least doing some of them?
  5. Do 5+ sponsored posts Success? I did not do five sponsored posts this month. I only did one (see here), BUT I did line up five for the month of November. So I’ll still consider it a win.
  6. Get back to the gymSuccess! We’ve had a lot going on this past month (more on this to come later) so working out has been a bit more challenging for me since moving here. It can be so challenging to get back into your routines when you’ve been off them for a month or two, but I did it! I’m finally back in the gym five days a week AND I’ve even added a yoga class to my schedule twice a week. I’m on a roll with my health and fitness right now and I’m feeling absolutely amazing both physically and mentally.  I couldn’t be more proud.
  7. Figure out my school situation Success! After a lot of thought and weighing all my options, I finally figured out my school situation. If you remember from last month, I was a bit stressed out with my classes because I just had so much going on around here. I ended up with an F in my very first graduate course which was devastating to me. Going from a 4.0 GPA in my undergrad to an F just wasn’t acceptable. But I decided to stay at my current university since I love them so much and I also slightly changed my program. Rather than earning an MBA in Sport Management, I’ll be earning an MS in it instead. It’s 5 less classes and I already have the entire program completely mapped out. I will officially be done with school in either November 2017 or February 2018. I’m SO excited.
  8. Read 3 books. – Partial success? I finished a book I had started months ago and read a second one from start to finish. So that’s not too bad if you ask me!
  9. Go on a dinner cruise. – Success! You can check it out here.
  10. Cross 3 things off our San Diego bucket list. – Success! You can check it out here and here.

NOVEMBER GOALS

A lot of my goals from October are going to carry over into November as well, but I didn’t list them all here. They’ll be more of background goals for now. Maybe if I don’t write them down, then they’ll somehow happen? Maybe? We’ll see. But for now, these are my goals for the month of November:

PERSONAL GOALS

  1. Figure out our Christmas cards. This is something I really wanted to make a tradition in our home. So far, the only year I’ve missed was our very first year because we weren’t living together yet. Plus some of our friends and family didn’t even know we were married yet. Oops. So we need to choose our photo for this year’s card, figure out the design, and gather all the addresses we need.
  2. Rock this new semester. I finally figured out school and spent all of October ordering my textbooks and printing out all my school information needed for this upcoming semester. If all goes as planned, I will be done with my masters degree and officially done with school altogether by next November or the following February (depending on how many classes I take each term). Just one more year left so I’m ready to kick some butt.
  3. Find a full-time job. When I left Maine, I was more than ready to start my sports career. I had my heart set on it, actually. Then I arrived in California where NONE of the San Diego teams are hiring right now. I’ve checked the job boards every single day since we arrived here and still, there’s nothing available. And it’s incredibly frustrating and discouraging. The Los Angeles Angels are hiring, buuuuut that’s a 2 hour drive from here. So that’s just not realistically doable. After a ton of thought and a million lists, I’ve decided to find a full-time job in a different industry. I want to work in sales, marketing and/or public relations so that I can gain experience in those areas, but it just won’t be in sports right now. The issue is that I absolutely refuse to settle. I’m about to be 25 in April and I’m a year away from completing my master’s degree. Thanks to this lifestyle, my entire resume consists of miscellaneous and seemingly pointless jobs. And it’s just not happening anymore. I need to be in a job position that truly contributes to my career.  So I’m officially on the hunt for a full-time salaried position. I completed about 10 job applications the other night so I’m hoping to get a call back from one of those, but we shall see. I’m hoping to have a job by the end of the month so wish me luck!

BLOGGING GOALS

  1. Reach 10k page views. Okay seriously, you guys. This is the month. I can feel it! I’m way too close. It’s driving me insane. So I am stepping up my blogging game and this will be the month that I hit 10k page views. Once January hits, I will not accept less than 10k page views each month. Last year, I went from averaging at 250 page views each month to 8k a month. That’s a huge improvement so I know I can grow even more!
  2. Increase my Twitter to 2k followers. I was so thrilled when I reached 1k Twitter followers a few months ago. But it’s been stuck at 1.5k for too long now. It needs to increase. So this month I’m hoping to reach the 2k mark! So if you want to help me out, then you can follow me here.
  3. Post to Instagram 2x a day. I am a complete failure at Instagram. Which is strange considering I love photography. I owned my own photography business for years and absolutely loved it. I wouldn’t mind getting back into it and shooting weddings again. But that’s beside the point. I’m horrible with my Instagram. I’ll post consistently for a few days and then not post anything for a week. It’s horrible, and I really think that’s why my account is suck at just over 1k followers. I’d really like for it to grow so the first step will be my consistency. And if you aren’t already following me on Instagram, then you can follow me here.
  4. Improve my consistency. Consistency is clearly an issue for me some weeks so this month, I hope to really schedule out my days and work my butt off. No more Netflix just because I’m not feeling great that day. I shall power through it this month.

What did you accomplish in October? What are your goals for November?

  • Jen

I need to figure out Christmas cards as well, I’m a little stressed about it haha.

    • My Christmas cards are late every single year. It’s so bad haha last year, I didn’t send them out until December 20th or something like that because Zack didn’t come home for the holidays until the 15th. So it was understandable, but still. This year, I plan to be on top of it haha

  • You accomplished a lot last month! It’s okay to not accomplish everything. It happens! I did not accomplish everything I wanted to last month completely. I wanted to update some old blog post and pinterest images….that didn’t happen. I updated like one pinterest image. Good luck with finding a job!! I’m sure you’ll get one soon. I have been using Twitter more recently. Still trying to get the hang of it. Good luck with your goals this month! You got this!

    • Thank you! 🙂 I didn’t get EVERYTHING on this list done, but I did go above and beyond with some of them. I started creating November’s goals about halfway through the month of October and ended up completing half of those before the month was even up haha I then had to go back in and change all these goals a couple days ago so that I wasn’t cheating by having a head start. So I’d say October was overall pretty successful.

  • Cole Nemeth

I think you did really great last month! That’s a lot of goals to check off! And good luck on your goals this month, too! You can do it!

    • Thanks Cole! I try to have around 10 goals each month. I like to have a mix of goals that I know I can accomplish as well and ones that I know will take a little bit more effort 🙂

  • Cassie

I would say October was a success, and if anything, the things you didn’t finish completely will only motivate you to work harder in November!
These are great goals to have – good luck! 🙂

    • Thanks so much Cassie! I definitely feel very motivated going into November. We’re finally more settled in our new home and I’ve developed a lot of good habits and routines as well. So I know this month will be much better!

  • Man! I totally understand how you feel with blogging 5x/week. I used to try to do that but I realized I just couldn’t. I had to let go of my idea of what I “should” do, and do what I was able to do instead. I blog 3x/week now and I love it. I am less stressed, more productive, and my blog is still doing well.
I hope you can find what works best!

    • Blogging 5 times a week is so hard sometimes. But when I’m on top of it, I notice a huge jump in my page views. It’s such a noticeable difference. It’s definitely the one thing standing in my way of reaching 10k monthly page views. Ugh. Drives me crazy haha but this month, I hope to be way better about my consistency. If I’m not posting 5 days a week, then I need to be sharing older posts instead and using those days to work on something else blog related. This will be my month haha

      • Yeah, that’s why I wanted to keep the 5 days/week up. I saw a big jump when I was consistent too. But then when I settled into my 3 day schedule and just made sure I was sharing old content or being active on social media, my traffic settled in and is still pretty close to what it was at 5 days. But I totally get it. It’s really tempting to try to jump back in at 5 days, but I know I would be a crazy lady. lol. Good for you!

        • I need to start sharing older content on my off days as well! That’s what I did today actually. I touched up an older post and re-shared it. Such a great way to drive traffic to your blog when you don’t have brand new content to share!

  • LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! I did my first monthly goals post today and I am so excited!! I took a blogging break in October to study for my engineering licensing exam and I need to get back in the swing of things. I didn’t even think about Christmas cards! I am starting wedding planning so I am kind of focusing more on starting to plan than the holidays right now. Good luck on finding a job! Get it girl!

    • I love doing monthly goals! It’s such a great way to hold yourself accountable each month. And I’ve noticed that if I write them down and share them with others, then it makes it easier for me to complete them. Especially when I share the outcome the following month. I just don’t want to have to tell my readers I completely failed haha I even print them out as well and post them on my board in my office so I know what my goals are for each month. I love it! 🙂 good luck on wedding planning and your licensing exam!!

  • I’m a complete nut about Christmas cards! I ordered mine in August…I know, crazy! But it’s literally my first to do list for the holidays so the earlier I cross it off, the better I feel.

    • Girl, I WISH I was that on top of it haha I’m super jealous there. Last year, I didn’t send them out until December 20th or something like that because Zack didn’t come home for the holidays until the 15th. So it was understandable, but still. This year, I plan to be on top of it haha

  • Thanks Alexa! I love doing monthly goals! It’s such a great way to hold yourself accountable each month. And I’ve noticed that if I write them down and share them with others, then it makes it easier for me to complete them. I print them off too so I have them hanging up in my office. It’s a pretty good system. As for page views, I’ve come a LONG way since where I was last year. I started to really get into blogging full-time last September and grew a TON in just 6 months. From there, life happened and I’ve been stuck ever since haha it’s so bad. But I want to grow a lot going into 2017. I have a lot planned 🙂

  • I know your fails seem pretty big but mental health is so important and I hope that you were able to take care of that and enrich yourself there. The rest will fall into place over time. You did so good on the rest of you goals too!!
And oh gosh I haven’t even thought about Christmas cards! I really should decide if I am going to do them!
Good luck with your goals!! And if you are interested I host a Goal Blogger Collab were we work together to keep each other accountable!

    • Thanks so much Angela! I completely agree. My mental health has always been such an issue in the past so it’s so important that I focus on it when needed. September was really rough month for me mentally, so it feels amazing to be back on track and ready to take on a new month. I’ll take that over any of my other goals any day. As for Christmas cards, I think I have them picked out, but I still haven’t decided on the photos for them. We may have to do an updated photoshoot this month, but I’m just not sure if we’ll have time. We’ll see how it goes!

  • Leslie Nichole

These goals are totally doable! I need to make goals for next month so i actually have a month to commit. I have no idea where the time has gone. Good luck rocking these goals this month!

    • Thanks Leslie! Good luck to you as well! 🙂 hopefully it’s a productive month for both of us!

  • I can’t believe it’s already time to start thinking about Christmas cards! I’m also looking for a full-time job, so I understand the struggle. Good luck!

    • It doesn’t even feel like the holidays around here haha Southern California sucks at fall so I feel like it’s still August sometimes. It’s horrible. But I definitely hope to mail out our cards right after Thanksgiving (assuming everything goes as planned lol).

  • Girl, don’t be too hard on yourself! I had a ton of huge blog goals this month and life just got so insane! I feel like as long as you are trying, that’s all that matters! I know you will hit 10K pageviews this month! Just keep working on it!

    • Thanks so much Chelsie! I really did get a ton done this month. Just most of it wasn’t included on my goals list haha so I guess it wasn’t too bad of a month now that I look back on it. And my fingers are SO crossed on that 10k. It’s starting to drive me insane haha I think I need some new sharing methods or something for this month. I’ll have to experiment a bit.

  • Good luck on the job hunt!
Ugh, instagram. I can barely pop out two pictures a week. I don’t know why anyone follows me really, lmao.

    • Thank you! The job hunt is already frustrating and possibly on hold haha I really don’t want to settle for a crappy job and nothing I want is hiring here. Sooooo I haven’t figured that out lol and so far I’ve been doing good with Instagram this month. Today has been my only fail day. One photo instead of two, but at least I posted!

  • Thanks Elizabeth! I’ve been creating monthly goals for a few years now and have always found them super helpful. It’s a great way to keep myself on track each month.

  • Dia

Even if you didn’t hit all these goals you had a good month. Don’t feel obligated to push yourself too hard to publish that often. When I started publishing less I actually got better traffic because I was able to market the post better. Whatever path you decided to take I wish you lots of success.

    • Thank you so much! 🙂 I really do feel that it wasn’t too bad of a month. I got a lot done that wasn’t included on my goals list so I’d call it a success! And so far so good with November too. I hope you have an awesome month!
