Plane ticket, $1500. Salon treatments, $200. Homecoming outfit, $50. Being in my husband’s arms for the first time in a year, priceless.
I cannot believe my best friend, husband, and love of my life is finally home with me again. After so many sleepless nights, lots of tears, and many lonely dinners for one, I finally have him back. And it’s the best feeling in the entire world. I look back on the morning I said goodbye to Zack last August and remember just how impossible this year apart felt. I’ll be honest, I had no clue if we could do it or not. But we did it. It’s over.
This update is a little late as he arrived home the first weekend in August, but I was way too excited to have him home to sit down at my computer and type up an update. He finally arrived home August 6th and we’ve been busy ever since. I feel horrible for the lack of updates this past month, but I’m sure you all understand. Here’s what’s been going on around here:
Zack is finally home!! Obviously. I couldn’t be happier to have him here with me again. It’s been a bit of an adjustment this past month, but it feels amazing to be reunited.
We had our family photos done (preview above). There will be more on this later, but I am completely in love with the way our photos came out! We had them done by Kevin Ouellette from Amazing DJ Music (Sound and Photography). He was absolutely amazing. I couldn’t recommend him more. But I’ll save all that for another post.
The movers arrived last week! All of our belongings are officially on their way to California. It’s so surreal. Leading up to Zack coming home, I hadn’t really even thought about moving. Of course I knew we’d be heading out shortly after he came home, but it didn’t really feel real. It wasn’t until the movers arrived and cleared out all our belongings that it finally hit me. It’s bittersweet. Part of me is super excited for this new adventure while the other half of me is sad to leave Maine. Well, not really sad to leave the state, but sad that I’m saying goodbye to an amazing job, friends, and family. It’ll be an adjustment, but I’ll be sure to keep you all updated during our move!
I started my MBA program. Since the first semester overlaps with Zack coming home and our giant move across the country, I decided to start out with one course instead of two (at my school, full-time is two courses and part-time is one). That way I could still start my program but I wouldn’t feel as overwhelmed with everything I have going on. So far so good! I’m taking Business Law and I’m loving it a lot. I’ve actually started to look into law schools and am hoping to be taking my LSAT this December. I had debated on this option a few times in the past, but this time, I think I’ll actually end up making it happen once we’re in the position to do so.
We had a combined family lobster dinner. For the past two years, Zack and I get everyone in our families together for a big lobster and clam dinner. We spend the afternoon drinking, eating, and spending time together. Just like most of our family functions. This year, we were very fortunate to have every single family member present. It made me so happy to have everyone in the same room at the same time. Even my parents were there. They didn’t think they’d have time to come over since they’d both me at work, but they made it work out! I loved it. I wish we had more dinners like this more often.
We are finally trying for a baby! Zack and I decided back in 2014 that we were ready for a baby, but back then we had decided to just let it happen whenever it happens. No pressure. Now that he’s home and we’re moving back in together, we’re ready to actually start trying. It’s only been a month and it’s already a stressful process between making sure my body is healthy and taking the ovulation tests. My cycle just isn’t “normal” enough for me to just let it happen so it’s been a lot of extra work. Fingers are crossed that baby Bartlett will be here next year. Stay tuned!
I finished up my job with the Sea Dogs. This was quite upsetting for me to say the least. This has been one of the most amazing summers of my life and it really sucked to have to end the season and say goodbye to everyone. The Sea Dogs is the first company I’ve ever worked for where I was excited to go to work every day. I wanted to be there and honestly if we weren’t moving, I would have loved to stay. I’d have wanted to move up and work there full-time in the front office and make a career out of it. I loved every single coworker and enjoyed being a part of their staff these last five months. Hopefully, I can continue to work in baseball when I move out to San Diego and my fingers are crossed that my work environment out there is just as amazing.
We took a trip down to Boston to see the Red Sox. This was high on our list of things to do when he came home. A few weeks ago, the Sea Dogs top player, Andrew Benintendi got promoted to the Red Sox so I absolutely had to go and see him play at Fenway. Sadly, he got a knee injury the week before we went so unfortunately, he wasn’t playing the night we were there. But I still wore my Benintendi Red Sox t-shirt anyways! The game wasn’t until 7:10 so we were able to get down to Boston early and walk around a bit. We had dinner at Wahlburgers which has been on our to do list for a while now (Zack’s a HUGE fan of Mark Wahlberg). If you haven’t gone yet then I highly suggest it. It was delicious. The game was really good too. They played against Tampa and won 9-4. I’m so glad we had the chance to get out of town for a bit together.
Overall, it’s been a really good first month. We’re now getting ready for my dad’s wedding this weekend and then we’re off to California early next week. I am so excited to move forward and see what this next month has in store for us. I have a feeling it will be just as amazing.
